Deja's Maternity Shoot

A couple of weeks ago I shot a maternity session with Deja. Deja had specified some very important looks and poses she wanted to do so I geared up to make that happen! She shared with me photos and examples that she had found on the web and even created her own backdrop for the shoot. It was really up to me to determine the lighting and post processing to make Deja’s maternity shots really pop.

After seeing Deja’s example photos, I knew I had to bring in a really powerful studio flash. Thankfully, I have a very large and powerful light with a huge octobox and diffuser. This setup is portable and only takes a few minutes for me to set up anywhere. I was ready to shoot within 10 minutes of arriving at Deja’s location. I really hate having my clients wait on me so I make it a priority to be prepared and ready to go as quickly as possible.

Deja and her husband were naturals in front of the camera. We looked at the suggested poses Deja had and we went at replicating them. The shots we got had the same feel as the samples, but both Deja and I thought that the photos we took were actually even better than the ones she had found! I was delighted to hear how much Deja liked the photos we were taking.

I don’t shy away from allowing my clients to look at the photos as I take them. Letting the clients see the photos on the back of the camera as we shoot gives them reassurance that the photos are coming out the way they want them to. If they happen to need some adjustment, we can easily do a few more poses and shots right then and there.

Deja was happy to receive unedited proofs back within a few hours of our shoot and fully edited high resolution photos back within a couple of days. If you’re looking to do a shoot of any kind, let me know. I’d love to work with you!
