Grad Photos on the Tower Bridge
Jesse contacted me for grad photo session a few weeks ago. As it turns out nursing students graduate a bit later than most. Most of my grad sessions are in the early part of the summer, but I’m totally happy to shoot grad photos during any time of the year. Jesse requested that his shoot take place at the Tower Bridge as he liked the aesthetic of it. I totally agreed that this would be a great location to do a session. We met up in the late afternoon at golden hour and were off shooting his grad pics!
The golden hues of the bridge are very unique and provide stunning backgrounds for photos. Jesse brought two changes for his session - a traditional suit and tie as well as scrubs that represent his field. Both outfits worked great on the bridge. The black scrubs were perfect in front of the gold. He was able to get a really clean looking shot. I also love the stethoscope that he brought with him as a prop. It really accentuated his outfit and it added a lot to the finished photo.
I love trying different things in photography and incorporating them into sessions that I have with clients. One thing that always looks great is the streaking by of cars in photos. The key is to have the car in motion and the subject of the photo still and sharp. In order to pull this shot off your subject has to stay very still otherwise they will end up looking out of focus and you’ll have a ruined photo. Jesse did great as he sat still long enough for me to get a few different cars passing by behind him on the bridge.
Catching just the right timing in photography is important for a good photograph. As we were crossing the street I noticed that the entire street was clear of vehicles. This meant we could get a great shot of Jesse in the middle of the street with the bridge behind him. To pull this off I had to use my most wide angle lens to fit the whole scene into one picture. We had to shoot the shot very quickly as traffic could arrive without any sort of notice. I thought our result and our timing were perfect on this one.
I’m loving the mood in this photo as Jesse is looking a bit contemplative. The vibe is really smooth here with the very buttery out of focus area behind Jesse. To get this image I used a very expensive 50mm lens at F1.2 in order to create this look. F1.2 is an aperture that many lenses cannot attain. I love using that lens as it is able to render such amazing images.
Jesse and I were out shooting for about an hour and we were able to capture some truly memorable photos to commemorate his graduation. No matter what kind of photography you are looking for, just let me know when you’d like to shoot and I’m sure we can book a date!
