Maternity Session at Land Park

I was contacted by Beerdeep over Yelp asking for a maternity session. They wanted a location that was close to Elk Grove and I suggested Land Park. Land Park is a very large park and a well-known location to Sacramentans. You’ll find the Sacramento Zoo located within the premises as well as Fairy Tail Town - a small amusement park geared for small children. The area just outside Fairy Tail Town has a beautiful garden as well as a small lake area, so we decided to meet up in the parking area there for our session.

One of the locations at Land Park is the amphitheater. I’ve actually never seen it used for anything, but I always enjoy going to the stage and shooting photos on it as there are some gorgeous white rocks that line the back wall. Shooting in front of or using the rocks as a depth piece is great for photographs. Bardeep and her husband chose to wear pink for their session and the color worked extremely well with the white rocks.

There are a number of water locations inside Land Park. The one we chose to shoot at had a small lake in front of a very large flat field area. It was a great place to shoot a wide photo of the happy couple. For the photo above I simply asked them to enjoy a little walk on the grass while I went a pretty good distance to take photos of them. Beerdeep did great and we were able to capture a great photo of them looking like they have the whole park to themselves.

Very close to the lake was this gorgeous tree. We just had to stop there for a few shots. And they ended up being my favorite photos from the session. The lighting and the scenery are stunning. For a gorgeous scene like this I had to pull out the best lens in my arsenal - my Sony G Master 50mm 1.2. It’s a beast of a lens and will produce the highest quality photo you can imagine.

The location was so perfect that the ducks that were at the park that day decided to join in on the photoshoot. Here they are all lined up perfectly with Beerdeep. To get this shot I had to act very quickly as the ducks were motoring right along. Thankfully I’m pretty quick on the draw and was able to get this moment.

We had an awesome session at Land Park. If Land Park is a location that is near you and you’re looking to get photos taken, I’d highly recommend it for any time of portraiture, family, or maternity sessions. I wish Beerdeep the best as she prepares for the birth of her first child!
